The gallery completed a comprehensive exhibit of paintings of the late Jason Schoener in 2007 along with a show of work also at the Chocolate Church Arts Center Gallery in Bath. Born in 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio, Schoener spent boyhood summers on the Maine farm of his uncle, the sculptor William Zorach. He was both a painter and an educator and exhibited his work widely throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Schoener worked in both watercolors and oils and his paintings are part of numerous private and museum collections. His style varied widely and included narrative paintings, seascapes, floral still-lifes, Naval operations scenes, and large, brightly colored abstracted landscapes.
Our current inventory includes all styles. We are also now offering a full color catalog of the 2007 show for sale. The book is a limited edition and includes 35 pages and 60 full color images. The price is $75. Please call us today at 207/371-9090 to reserve your copy.
In early fall of 2007 we discovered another stash of Jason's paintings from 1937 to the early 1960's. In March we opened a show of many of those watercolors at the Georgetown Historical Society's new Center for History and Culture at 20 Bay Point Road in Georgetown. The show is up through June of this year.
